I got an email today from my friend and fellow internet marketer, Tim Castleman. In that email, Tim talked about how he uses the information products he buys to help him with his business.
His first rule of thumb is this: If you buy a book, READ IT!
No joke! I'm guilty, he's guilty, I bet you're guilty–you buy something and then never read it, watch it, or listen to it, whatever the case may be.
So obviously, if you buy something thinking that it's going to help you, then you better darn well consume it. Learn from it. Apply the principles to your own situation.
Tim then goes on to tell us his method for getting the most out of whatever it is he buys. And it's good information. Darned GREAT advice. I suggest you do something similar, if not exactly what he does.
However, Tim and I disagree on his very last point in that email–in his last plea to get the reader over to his blog, he says, "Stop dreaming and start doing."
I know what Tim is saying. I think he just doesn't mean it the way it came across.
Here's what I think he means: People don't take action.
But it's not because they're "dreamers." I can say personally that I am far less of an action taker when I am NOT dreaming.
Most people, once they hit some magical "adult" age simply stop dreaming. Life gets in the way, shit consumes our time, and we drop into bed and forget about the one thing that keeps us alive.
That thing IS the dream.
I am a FIRM believer in the power of positive thinking. Now, before you get all "The Secret" on me, I don't mean to say that if you think it, then it will happen. No, life is not that easy.
But I will say that if you cannot even think it (i.e., dream it), you most likely will not DO IT.
See, life is all about setting goals, making a plan to achieve your goals, and then DOING the work to accomplish the goals.
We fail for 3 reasons:
- We never set the goal. We don't dream. We don't have "the end in sight."
- We don't plan. We may say, "Wouldn't it be nice if…" and leave it at that. Then we move on to the next project.
- We don't do the work. Maybe it's because we don't know what work needs to be done. Or maybe it's because we don't make the time to do the work.
I will say this: If you don't do #1, #2 and #3 are really for what? How will you know when you get there? Where is THERE? Yeah, you did some stuff and now you're somewhere else.
But is this where you want to be?
Getting back to dreaming…I find it infinitely more beneficial to dream. When I day dream and purposely set the stage right before I fall asleep at night to think about what I want to dream about, it is far easier for me to complete the 3-step process of "idea generation" to "idea fruition."
We all have our ways. One way–a system if you will–of "getting what you want," is what I call "Bad Ass Ninja Mind Tricks." Take a look at it. It's a multi-part set of "brain exercises" that will screw your head on straight and enable you to build your future, rather than having your future shaped by your circumstances.
