Latent Semantic Indexing and Why It Sucks
Ah, SEO…every wannabe internet marketer is an expert on SEO.
So they must know what LSI is, right?
Of course they do(n't)!
But even if they did know what Latent Semantic Indexing meant, would they know what to do with it if it fell in their lap?
Of course, they would(n't)!
All kidding aside, LSI was and maybe still is a big deal in the search engine world. But should you try to use it in your website content?
I guess it couldn't hurt. (Well, like everything, it actually can, but can we quantify it? No. Probably not.)
The idea with LSI is that you use synonyms in your blog posts that cover your targeted keyword phrase (like dog training coupled with “teaching your puppy” and “how to train a canine,” etc.)…
But the bottom line is that your writing makes sense to actual real human beings.
Google is smart enough to know what ALL the synonyms are for ALL of the words you use on a page. You don't have to cover 15 synonyms in order for Google to rank your site higher than another.
They've done the work. Now you just have to write naturally and not “keyword stuff” your content with words that mean the same thing!
No need for a Roget's Thesaurus. I knew you'd be relieved.
The point is this: Google (or somebody) made a cute new term and some “leaders” or “gurus” in the industry took the term, made some shit up, and sold it to you.
The goo-roos do that with every damned thing.
Better for you: Tell a story. Give a reason to “buy” what you're “selling.” Give your reader a takeaway (“buy this” or “do this”). Teach them something. Give them value.
And forget about acronyms.
