Just a quick note to let you know what's going on. My web host really let me down this week.
Let me re-phrase–they've been letting me down for a while…just this week was a comedy of errors AND a DDoS attack that creamed the host and precluded their customer support from actually doing their normal jobs while they were in crisis mode.
Don't have a lot of time to type right now (sleeping baby on my lap–this is pretty difficult to do–should have worn one of those front loader kid carrier thingies, but I wasn't thinking about it when I sat down and well…)…
Suffice it to say that I've gone and hosted my main site (this one) at another web host and have a LOT of cleaning up to do. My site, which I basically moved out in the dark of one late night last week, is a shambles, but it works.
It all stemmed from a nameserver issue at the old web host…and then went ape-sh## when my DNS started to NOT resolve and then…the DDoS that hit nearly every web host on the planet.
NOTE that there was nothing wrong on my end with respect to security settings…and then, when they screwed something up and restored my site from a really old backup…everything went haywire (they did all this without consulting me, either, by the way).
Anyhow, gotta run. Stay tuned. I've got a lot of really good stuff to share with you from this learning experience.
sometimes when it sucks, it pours – glad you’re gonna come out okay.
Yikes! We’ve mentioned this before: backup, backup, backup. 😀 I finally broke down and decided to pay my host to take care of it for me, and I’m doing it on the daily now. Glad to hear you didn’t lose everything.
No kidding. Glad I had backups; but it required a 3-step process, believe it or not, because my new host doesn’t “do” certain things…for security and speed purposes. So I had to restore from backup to another host, then copy the files and export the database to my new host. Convoluted, but it got me out of a jam.
