For all you Facebook fan page creators, here's a neat little trick for hiding stuff from casual viewers and making it visible to fans.
Think coupons, super secret confidential information (you know, CIA stuff)–just kidding!
Seriously, this is great for enticing people who come across your fan page to "like" your page. Once they "like" your page, the hidden content becomes visible. This "stupid Facebook trick" requires only 2 things:
Do Step #1, the add it to your fan page. Then go to your fan page and choose Edit. Find the FBML application in the list that appears and choose edit.
You will be presented with a box where you can enter the simple code below. Make sure you change the "Box Title" from FBML to something more descriptive. For example, if your hidden content is a coupon, you might name this box "Coupon" (simple, I know).
The code is as follows:
<fb:fbml version="1.1">
Your VISIBLE message. Type whatever you want anybody to see here. Make sure you dangle the carrort, though, with something like this:
Make sure you "Like" this page–once you do, some awesome content will be magically revealed to you.
<br><br>
<fb:visible-to-connection>This is the secret info only Facebook fans can see.
</fb:visible-to-connection>
</fb:fbml>
Click Save Changes. Then make sure that your "Coupon" (if that's what you named it) tab appears near the top of your fan page (by Wall and Info).
That's it. If you want to see it in action, go to my phony coupon page on Facebook. Simply "Like" the page and you'll see the coupon.
