One method for building your email subscriber list is to offer free products that people can download in exchange for opting in. Place your opt-in form on the download page itself, or even as a requirement before they get their free product.
People absolutely love to get free items that are high quality. This will start your list out right as people will be interested in what you have to say since you gave them such great value for free.
So the caveat here is that your free report is high quality, unique, and offers your visitors information that is enormously useful to them.

It’s true, people like free products, and most don’t mind giving you their email address in exchange for it. An opt-in box makes it easier for them to do so. I still don’t like the pop-up kind, though!
It’s funny hearing how much people hate the popups but every time I put one up my subs get a bump 🙂
Bill,
A few years ago, it was so simple – just create a free gift and people were thrilled to receive it. However, most of us have been inundated with “free” gifts and then we are added to email lists and bombarded with continual email messages.
People still opt in for free gifts but it has to be something that stands out and offers a lot of value.
Warmly,
Dr. Erica
That is true, Dr. Erica. It used to be easier. But we are creative (or at least should be) so we adapt. Your “free” offering has to be better than anybody else’s and it has to be a thing that people crawl over broken glass for.
Thanks for weighing in! I appreciate your feedback 🙂
